Some of you have heard the Pantone Color of the Year is Mocha Mousse. It is a soft brown. You may be thinking, “I can wear that color; or, I don’t like that color or why would you choose that color?”
Or even: How do you wear that color? We will discuss this conundrum in today’s blog: How do you Incorporate a pop of color into your outfit? It can be a fun and stylish way to express yourself. Here is the official photo of the color of the year from
Pantone:
It is a very soft, muted color that typically I would reserve for those with warmer, more soft coloring. I can wear this color easily (because I am a True Spring with warmer coloring). But, even for me, when I do wear this color I have to add some bold colors to it since to me, color is medicine, and it cheers me up and makes me happy. Head to toe in this color would dampen my spirit.
I have a new motto suede motto jacket very close to this color, and I wore it with a purple jacket, a leopard skirt, and Brown or even black suede tall boots. To me, that was a compromise with the softer color.
Here are colors that could work with Mocha Mousse:
Hot pink, magenta, royal blue, black, cream, yellow, teal, green, red, burgundy, purple!
I do see the merits of this color — it is a nice neutral that is not overly dark — like black — that can add a nice change to our wardrobes.
Here is an excellent example of wearing the soft brown color with a bright color!
Here is an example of the mocha color in a tank top with a purple jacket and leopard print skirt. It is one of my favorite combinations with brown, along with warm red.
Word to the wise: Avoid wearing this brown with orange or even peach. It looks too “Halloween!”
Here are some tips for wearing a pop of color:
Start Small:
If you’re new at adding some bold colors to your wardrobe start small:
- Accessories such as a scarf, purse, vibrant pair of shoes, or statement earrings. This allows you to experiment without feeling overwhelmed. Balance is Key:
- Pair your pop of color with neutral tones to create balance. This can include mocha mousse, white, black, gray, or denim. This helps highlight the colorful element without it being too overpowering.
Color Blocking: - Add more than one color to the brown such as color blocking: Combine different bold colors in one outfit. Make sure the colors complement each other, and consider using a neutral color to anchor the look.
Monochromatic Look: - If you’re feeling bold, go for a monochromatic look using different shades of the same color. This creates a cohesive and stylish appearance. For the Pantone Color of the Year, use light beige, cream, a darker brown along with the mocha color.
If you have done a color analysis with me, and this brown is not in your personal colors, if you like the color wear it away from your face in a skirt, pant, shoe, purse, etc.
We are going to start seeing this color all over the stores! However, if you don’t really love, just skip it! Remember, fashion is a form of self-expression, so don’t be afraid to have fun and experiment with colors that make you happy.
