Fall Colors and Style Trends

As we look to fall we might assume the typical colors are always “hot” and reflect the colors of the season. That’s true it part, but it’s always fun to see what fashion designers have up their sleeves for us and what to expect in the the stores this fall and winter.

Here’s a summary …For starters…

  • Red will continue to be popular this fall. Wear this warm hue in–red, grey, tan; red and burgundy; and the traditional red and black pairing. Red was certainly dominant in the Anniversary Sale at Nordstorm, particularly in coat and blazers.
  • Olive green appeared on the runways in pants, coats, skirts. Pair olive green with other neutrals such as brown, black; or try red with olive and even gold. Even more different try olive with pastels such as pink and light blue; olive and cobalt blue.
  • Brown continues to appear on the runways, and this time we saw some unusual pairings such as brown and lavender; brown, hot pink and orange.
  • This fall expect to see some pastels and light neutrals. Usually reserved for spring and the summer months, we saw lavender, monochromatic; pink and lavender; lavender and grey, grey and cream. Also, lavender, pink and smoky blue; pale green and grey, and light blue and burgundy.
  • All shades of grey were on the runways in coats, shoes, pant and accessories. While not all of us can wear grey, everyone can sport a grey handbag or a suede pump in grey. Beautiful color pairings show bright purple with grey; dark grey with cream and burgundy.

Textures to look for….

  • Sheers will continue to be popular such as sheer sleeves, sheer dres or jackets.
  • Different types of animal prints are will popular in many pieces. Remember to wear your best animal print near your face such as for me, a spring, and a brown/tan animal print or a brown/cream cow print. Winters look better in black background animal prints, and summers and muted in grey.

Styles..

  • Last year we saw the newer long, maxi coat, especially in winter coats. That trend is still very popular. If you hesitated on adding a maxi coat to your wardrobe last winter, consider one this year. This coat in the Nordstorm sale is two trends: bright red and a maxi.
  • Fluffy and furry. This trend is for the dramatic and creative among us. A little fur can really step up whatever you wear. You will see fur in long coats for men and women;  muffs and hems. Fur could be in traditional colors such as brown, black, etc., but also look beautiful in some floral prints in fur.
  • Preppy styles continue to be a stable in style for this next season, Tweed suits, tailored mens wear and in skirts and dresses, elegant shirtdresses. Twin sets, cardigan sweaters are still popular. I like to break up sweater sets and wear the cardigan with a white shirt or pop of color tank, etc.

Next week, we will continue our talk about trends!

Keep is sassy, Indy.
