Part of my practice as an Indiana Wardrobe Stylist and color analysis expert means applying what I know to my own style. It’s a natural extension of what I do as a stylist, and it’s fun to know that what I’m doing works for me and enhances my image. In this blog post I’ll share some updates that I have made in my personal beauty routine and closet.
Indiana Wardrobe Stylist Updates
Embracing My Best Colors and Ignoring What’s In Stores
This may seem like a simple thing I should have been doing all along, but it can be difficult if your colors are not prevalent year-round! My best colors are brights such as coral, turquoise, yellow, warm pink, blues and lighter orchid. In the winter months, it’s harder to find these colors. If I do embrace winter colors that are popular right now such as black, dark burgundy, and hunter green, then I’ll wear these colors on the bottom. I’ll make sure my top has a combination of bright spring colors in it.
Looking at My Makeup in a New Way
As gray and white creeps into my hair color, my stylist uses a lighter base and makes my blonde highlights more neutral and beige, which really suits me. This change, in my eyes, calls for a different color mascara. I no longer wear black mascara one hundred percent of the time. I’m now wearing brown mascara and really enjoy it since it goes with my lighter brown eyebrows. When I want a little drama, I put black mascara on the tips of my eyelashes. (This practice is not new, it’s called minking.)
Cream Blush Instead of Powder Blush
I like how cream blush goes on smoother and more evenly so it looks more natural. I tend to gravitate toward a pinky-coral color from my color book. If you have a color analysis I’d recommend referencing the color book for your best makeup colors.
Not Buying the Latest Trendy Shoes
While I generally keep up on trends, I no longer feel the need to buy the latest sneakers, boots, etc. Why? It’s impossible to keep up on trends one hundred percent of the time. I wear the shoes that feel right and coordinate well with the styles I have. This year I am loving a new pair of python leather tall boots. Over the last couple of years I have realized how flattering a tall boot can be.
Burgundy Color
One of the colors in style this year is burgundy, but unfortunately it’s not one of my best colors. I do love that color though. I am finding ways to incorporate burgundy into my shoe and jewelry wardrobe.
Full Coverage Makeup Foundation
A big change I made last year in my makeup routine was to switch to a full coverage foundation. By doing so, you can use less makeup while effectively creating a soft look that lasts and flatters you. I often use I use Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Foundation. It’s terrific!
