Hello Fashionistas,
We are in the middle of an Indianapolis winter it seems, and what is our wardrobe staple? The coat, of course. There are so many styles from which to choose, sometimes it’s hard to decide what you need in your wardrobe. Let me, as your Indianapolis Personal Stylist, make some recommendations: It goes without saying we all need a puffer coat. The longer, fitted version with a hood is popular this season and the way to go. I was recently in NYC walked around the city sidewalks, and puffer coats dominated. Most of them were in neutral colors such as black, grey, navy, olive, burgundy or even a teal blue. I like the way this new upper coat is more fitted and shows the waist. It’s so flattering, even if you don’t have a waist — this style gives you one. While not all puffers are alike — some have the quilting inside and fabric outside– most will keep you toasty warm and in style at the same time. Be sure to add to some bright colored gloves, scarf or even hats. They don’t all have to match–just need to go! This coat is the Steve Madden “Taslon” Parks with Faux-fur trim, available at Nordstrom for $129.
I love handmade gloves, hats and scarves, and have bought some hats from twoseasidebabes.com. They are beautiful and wash nicely. I like this green scarf for $40. Buy it for yourself or gift it! You’ll feel great!
Indianapolis Personal Stylist Coat Tips
I think all Indianapolis women need a pretty wool or cashmere coat that’s tailored and dressy. I bought the Cocoon coat from JCrew in royal this year and love it. It is so warm, and I have so enjoyed wearing it. This coat is $350 at JCrew, and the color is beautiful.
Another good outerwear items is a vest. Be sure to not get one that’s too bulky — you will want them fitted. Of course dark colors paired with dark jeans will be most slimming, but if you don’t have to worry about it, buy a bight color or print such as plaid. This sleek puffer vest is from Vineyard and Vine, in a vivid pink, and is $150.
This is another pretty wool coat that is more neutral. I have seen many grey coats out there this year and I love them. They go with so much, but they are not as harsh as black — and do not collect dust and lint. This Calvin Klein Double-Breasted Belted Walker Coat is $119 on Macys.com.
For the animal print lover among us, this faux chetah print is beautiful. I saw it in person in Zara while visiting NYC and considered buying it. It’s just pretty, but not overwhelming. It would look great and could be toned down with some black cropped or ankle pants and a cream or black T and black booties. It would also be cute with a tank dress in red, black, grey or even cream. Use your imagination.
One last item…plaid coats. They are really in this year, and I love them. Be sure and buy a plaid that does not overwhelm your if you’re petite or make you look bigger if you’re tall and plus. Cut is key. Belts will slim it, too.
Our final coat is really unique and is from Sundance.com. It’s $225, and a unique cut with a cute collar. I like it!
Enjoy the weather, and don’t forget, fashionistas, to shine in your beautiful winter coats.
