Indianapolis Wardrobe Stylist Suggestions from a Perfect Blazer
- Lining: The interior lining should be made of a quality material, such as Bemberg (a type of rayon made from cotton linter), rather than polyester. A poorly made lining will restrict your movement and may rip easily.
- Buttons: Real horn, mother of pearl, or metal buttons are a hallmark of quality. Plastic buttons, common in cheaper suits, can break easily and cheapen the overall look.
- Color and Pattern Classic colors such as navy, charcoal, and black tend to exude timelessness and sophistication. While patterns like pinstripes or checks can add personality, ensure they are subtle and tasteful.
- Avoid flashy or trendy elements in a jacket. It’s tempting to go for trendy cuts, bold colors, or unusual lapel styles, but these can quickly become outdated and may not flatter your body type. Stick to classic lapel styles, such as notched or peaked lapels, and avoid overly skinny or wide options. Loud or garish patterns can make even an expensive suit look cheap and are less versatile for different occasions. The suits feature women picking out some fun colors. Photo by Yuli Como
- A well-made, timeless suit will always outshine a trendy but poorly constructed one.
- Try Before You Buy. Finally, don’t rely solely on online shopping when purchasing a suit. Try the suit on in person to ensure the fit, feel, and overall look work for you. A suit that looks perfect on a website model may not suit your body type or personal style. If buying online is your only option, ensure the seller has a good return policy, and consider having the suit altered by a professional tailor. Conclusion A high-quality suit is an investment that pays off in how you look and feel. By focusing on fabric, fit, construction, and details, you can find a suit that enhances your appearance and lasts for years. Avoiding cheap materials and flashy trends will ensure your suit looks refined and professional, allowing you to make the best possible impression in any setting.
As I was breaking up all this content into two blogs, it occurred to me: This information is valuable for women as well– so really everyone!! While women’s fashion does not have the same emphasis on suits, etc., many of the principles apply especially in fabric, cost, fit, and quality. The difference is that women will and should tend to buy more trendy, colorful jackets than men do, although some men will buy these types of jackets for a party, etc.
So read this, everyone!!
As an Indianapolis Wardrobe Stylist, I think a general principle about buying clothing is that you get what you pay for. If it’s a classic jacket you will wear for years, buy the best quality you can afford.
A common belief is that you should be able to buy a suit off the rack and not pay for additional alternations. That certainly doesn’t happen 100 percent of the time. How many times have I seen celebrities walk the red carpet with pants that are way too long? It baffles me; that even wealthy people do this.
