Happy New Year 2026! I just returned from a quick four-day trip to one of our favorite cities, San Francisco. There is just so much to do there, and we go back probably every other year, or even more often. This is the first time we have gone in the winter. We knew it would be slightly erratic weather, especially since California is getting massive rains! This time, my wardrobe really worked for me, so I wanted to give you some Indiana Women’s Stylist tips to use as you pack for your trips! This is part one!
Indiana Women’s Stylist Tips for Trip Packing
It’s true that planning ahead and packing efficiently can turn travel from stressful to seamless. You’re ready to go and know you are prepared for whatever happens along the way. Then you can just focus on having fun instead of wrestling with your suitcase.
Start with a plan.
Before you open your suitcase, consider the length of your trip, the weather, and the activities you’ll be doing. While I didn’t create a checklist, I did keep in mind what we’d be doing. This trip was different in that we were intentionally hiking on an all-city trail that averaged about 15 miles. That meant I needed some light, warm workout clothing and good walking shoes. Since I used to run half-marathons, packing for activities like this is a breeze. I also took a workout-type quilted coat, and I loved it since it dried quickly and was easy to pack. I am a Zelle, Beyond Yoga, and Vulori fan for workout clothing. It is a little more expensive but wears well.
I always have a small toiletries bag packed at all times with small-sized deodorants, shampoos, etc. That is a real timesaver. Because we now just do carry on luggage, the items need to be smaller, 3 ounces or less.

Choose the right luggage.
I am in the market for a new suitcase and have not decided upon one yet. There are pros and cons to hard-side and soft-side luggage, and I have used both. It’s true that your suitcase or bag sets the tone for how much you bring. Opt for a lightweight, appropriately sized bag—smaller luggage naturally limits excess. If possible, use a carry-on to avoid checked-bag hassles and encourage mindful packing. Soft-sided bags offer flexibility, while hard-shell cases protect fragile items.
I bought my husband a new carry-on suitcase for Christmas, a NOBL. It has a neat concept of opening like a trunk and not having zippers. It also has a spot to put your water, which we loved. I purposely bought a hunter green one so it would stand out among the sea of black suitcases.
Women, your purse is key. I took my two pieces from Brighton, a black backpack and a small, cross body in leopard. It is very important to have a tight, secret place to store credit cards and money. On our last trip, I put my cards in a small wallet and dropped the wallet on the sidewalk. A kind man retrieved it for me!
Don’t forget makeup and skin care.
With makeup, I have downsized–for travel and everyday life. I no longer use a heavy foundation but switched to a tinted moisturizer (Marini Physical Protectant Tinted) with 45+ SPF. There are several good ones out there. I can also recommend “It” brand concealer. It provides excellent coverage! I also take pencil eyeliners and sharpeners, rich lip balm, lipstick, mascara, and eyeshadow, some of which can be used for brow tint. These products are also in an already packed small makeup case.
Don’t forget travel size face cleanser, sun block, and moisturizer. This is especially true if you have sensitive skin. Don’t rely on the hotel to have products you can use beyond soap.

PS – I also like to carry a toothbrush and small toothpaste in my backpack so I can brush my teeth on particularly long flights. A small package of mints is a nice addition, too.
