Many of you might be squeezing in one more beach vacation before the end of summer. Good for you! I do love the beach, but my husband only tolerates it! I’ve been married nearly 25 years, so we have learned to compromise by going to a beach with an umbrella and chair rental. My husband stays out of the sun, and I can relax with a good book. If you’re packing for your next beach vacation, make use of some pointers from your Personal Image Consultant.
Beach Vacation Packing Advice from Your Personal Image Consultant
My number one necessity for a beach vacation is a good book or a good podcast. Do a little research before you leave to find the genre that suits you. I found it amusing that in the third season of The White Lotus, they showed what books the resort guests were reading. Marketing at its best! These included The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcom Gladwell, Gender Trouble by Judith Butler, Lost Children Archive by Valeria Luiselli, and Gone Bamboo by Anthony Bourdain.
Bring multiple swimsuits. If you are going to the beach multiple times, you don’t want to constantly put on a wet swimsuit. If this would break your budget, buy one really nice swimsuit, and then the others can be cheaper versions. I have had good luck with swimsuits from Target. If you wash them gingerly and don’t throw them in the dryer, they will last 1-2 seasons.
Don’t forget your swimsuit cover-up. Many of us don’t think about this fashion necessity, but don’t overlook it. A perfect swim coverup can take you to dinner and beyond. This is especially true for a long maxi skirt that you can wear later. Pick a sheer and fast-drying fabric that you can wear use and over. I like to buy a print coverup that coordinates with my swimsuits by pulling out some of the colors.
Get a pair of practical and rubber-soled sandals. I once wore sandals that slipped on concrete so I fell flat on my face. I often spend the most on my sandals since good ones will last several seasons.
Remember hats. Don’t forget this important accessory. I like a floppy hat if I am sitting on a chair, and a more structured hat for later. I also love it when I see ladies wearing their straw hats on the plane! It makes me smile and puts me in a vacation mood.
Include something warm. I cannot tell you how many times I have frozen to death in air conditioning or when the weather suddenly got cold!
Choose light fabrics in your other items. Lighter fabrics just don’t weigh as much and pack easily in your packing cubes.
