As your Indiana Personal Stylist, I have discovered over the years that having a skin care routine is not only important but essential.

Here is a blog from Debbie, the professional at MK Dermatology in Carmel, Indiana,

It’s in our 40s that we must face the reality that our skin is aging. We don’t appreciate seeing the crow’s feet (lines on the outside corner of our eyes) and our jawline isn’t as defined as it once was. We have brown spots that we swear weren’t there the night before. Our skin looks dull, it just doesn’t have that glow we had in our 20s.

Over the years, we’ve come to the conclusion that we need more than our cleanser and moisturizing sunscreen. Hopefully, you have been using this! It can be quite overwhelming when determining what you can do for your skin. What is the best treatment? What is the best product? Do I really need more than one cleanser or moisturizer? Good news! We have many, varied options that help.

It’s time to assemble a team to help you navigate your individual skin care protocol. Everyone has different goals and there are no “cookie cutter” plans that fit everyone’s needs.

The first step when you want to seriously start taking care of your skin is to find an exceptional dermatologist. Annual skin checks need to be added to your “must do” list.

The second step is finding a great aesthetician. Your aesthetician can help you navigate and find the right treatments and products to help achieve your goals. I tell all my clients there are 4 must have products:

  1. Sunscreen moisturizer. There are many wonderful options available. Chemical or Mineral, tinted or untinted. Some even protect us from the blue light from our computer screens. They can even replace our foundation. Yes, it is okay to have more than one on your counter. I currently have 5 that I use depending on my needs for the day.
  2. Vitamin C serums. These helps brighten our skin and can help with pigmentation and fine lines, but more importantly it helps fight oxidative stress on the skin due to environmental factors (sun, pollution, diet) to name a few. It also helps your sunscreen work more effectively.
  3. Retinol products. These can be prescribed or obtained over the counter. They help stimulate collagen in the skin, helping to fight fine lines and laxity. This can come in many different forms. We no longer have to put up red peeling, irritated skin using this product. Your aesthetician can help you find the right Retinol product for you.
  4. AHA (Alpha Hydroxy acid) products. These can come in many different forms and help cellular turnover to keep our skin glowing.

Treatments and products for fighting the aging process keep getting better. New treatments, procedures and ingredients become available constantly, making your plan ever evolving.

I love being an aesthetician and I have the privilege of working with board certified Dr. Melanie Kingsley at MK dermatology in Carmel, Indiana. We have a variety of treatments and products to help achieve your skincare goals, including Mkderm personal line SkinTherapyMD.
