Men: Get Out of the Gray and Black Rut

If you are in the Midwest, the cold bleakness of winter has set in. January is one of the longest months. Often, our wardrobe reflects our mood. Perhaps we ate one too many pieces of Aunt Nellie’s fudge or enjoyed those sweet potatoes a little too much. We might have a few extra pounds and want to hide them with clothing. I understand. I have had a weight challenge since my teenage years. Fortunately, I do love to move, and exercise is a part of my life. Whatever your preferences, please don’t buy into the current drab colors and oversized trends we are seeing in the stores and online. Indianapolis Men’s Styling trends are fun; however, don’t feel you have to partake in every one of them. Buy for you: your coloring, your build/shape, your styling preferences. This is why I never shop with someone without first meeting them: the color, shape, and style appointment. How could I ever shop for you when I don’t know what you love, what you hate, and what styles and colors I think you could try? That is mere folly.

Winter Indianapolis Men’s Styling Advice

I think in general, most men like to blend in. They like common colors. They don’t want to be the colorful peacock that women often do. Yet, I don’t buy into this notion 100 percent. My husband has always had gray or even black coats, but this year I bought him a new camel color wool coat. It made me feel so good for him to reach for it and love wearing it. He would not have bought that lighter color, yet it really flatters him.

While I believe menswear trends have been showing more color and style options than ever before, as a group, more men could benefit from it. Case in point, at the Golden Globes, I saw Glen Powell wear a sharp navy tux and even glasses. He looked completely different. I didn’t think he could even improve his overall fantastic look, but he did. The white shirt and bowtie made the whole ensemble even better.
I have also seen some pastel suits, such as pale pink and even pale green in social media. So flattering and yet a risk!

Men should try plaid blazers according to Indianapolis Men's Styling expert Beth Divine image shows rust blazer men should consider wearing plaid blazers according to Indianapolis Men's Styling expert Beth Divine image shows purple blazerFor here in the Midwest, while the cold winds blow, I am suggesting a colorful plaid blazer. I was out in Carmel yesterday and walked by a men’s store there–Andrew Porter Clothiers LLC–and saw these two gems: two plaid blazers. What I liked about them was how they were styled. The rust blazer is worn over a chambray shirt! Love, love. The purple plaid is shown over a navy polo. These are both very easy business casual looks with the benefits of a well-tailored structured blazer that upgrades any other separates we wear with it. Even better, the rust blazer is better for warm coloring, (Fall and Spring); the purple is better for cooler coloring (Winters, Summers).

Ladies — do you like this blazer? Don’t feel left out. It can be tailored to fit your shape as well. Women do buy from men’s stores!
