For the past two years color analysis has been a popular service for me. Videos are all over TikTok, Instagram, and other social outlets. As an Indianapolis Color Analysis, I find it interesting because to me it is one of the most helpful services in building a core wardrobe.
Indianapolis Color Analysis Tips for Men and Women
An Indianapolis Color Analysis is also beneficial to men as well. The conversation is a little different for men versus women though. Although there are differences in men’s style, such as some men will wear a floral shirt, yellow pants or bright pink blazers. For the average guy out there, a color analysis will tell them what are their best neutrals such blazer/suit colors.
For instance, I recently did a color analysis and closet cleanse for a physician who turned out to be a spring. He had some red in his hair and his complexion was a peachy color. He looked great in colors such as peach, coral yellow, warmer blues and greens, and navy.
For him, I recommended he look at navy or blue suites, or even khaki tan for summer/fall. His casual shirt could be in brighter colors. I did not recommend black suits or shirts or even gray.
Some color palettes present a challenge in purchasing clothes season by season. It’s difficult for someone’s who a light complexion to find lighter colors in fall and winter. I find it difficult to find bright, lighter colors for me at this time of year since stores are stocking very dark neutrals such as dark green, burgundy, black, and gray. I don’t wear any of these colors; although I do own some bottoms in this color. I can find my lighter neutrals such as cream, camel, and a lighter brown in the fall.
During an Indianapolis Color Analysis appointment, if someone has many, many items in their closet in the wrong color I will give some ideas on how to wear these pieces. But ultimately, I want clients to transition their wardrobes to their best colors. Otherwise, I believe the color analysis cannot help them most effectively. At the very least, I advise clients to stop buying — let’s say black — in large amounts if their color book does not have that color.
The only exception I can say is if the clothing was a sentimental gift, say from a husband or boyfriend. That’s really the only exception.
Adding print scarves in your best colors or jewelry in your best metal can make a difference as well. Doing this is certainly a step in the right direction.
My best metals are gold and rose gold, yet I have some very nice jewelry I’ve received for gifts over the years. I still wear them, especially the silver necklaces, but make sure my dress/top is a strong version of my best colors such as coral, red, bright blues, or greens.
I can also mix metals, and often do so with earrings and necklaces and sometimes adding a gold necklace to a silver necklace, or adding some beads in red, pink, or turquoise.
Learning more about color and how to use it is fun — and very cost-effective since you won’t be buying clothes in colors that do not flatter you.
