Recommended Trends for Specific Styles
If you have the classic and elegant style, you are going to love the colorless jackets and myriad knitwear options, including twin sets, short-sleeve sweaters, argyle cardigans, and polos. I have always been a jacket girl first, but I am loving the fitted, patterned sweaters out there that can be worn as a layer over blouses and dresses. Fortunately, they are no longer the simple, shapeless cardigans of the past.
The dramatic style will love the fur trend — in just a small dose in a collar or trim, or the full-length fur coat to add drama and color. These pieces can be something you already have or something new to buy. Go for fringe skirts, vibrant red accents, or dramatic collarless coats. Hit many trends in one for a brown (very popular color) suede skirt with print or color, and pair with a cashmere sweater in a bold hue such as red.
Boho style will love some of fall’s new and updated options of statement skirts, suede, fringe, and fur. Think of a pretty, statement midi skirt with ruffles and fun print paired with a short-sleeve sweater and a suede motto jacket or fringe vest. This is a warm outfit that will take you through fall! If you don’t own any suede, consider visiting some vintage and consignment shops. Make sure there are no strange closet smells when you buy these pieces.
The romantics will love the layers of lace, skater skirts, and retro fashion pieces. Who doesn’t love lace? Also, consider tulle. Did you see Princess Katherine wearing her classic blazer with a coordinating midi tulle skirt?! I love this look and want to copy it.
If you are stuck on how to update and transition your wardrobe, think one piece at a time. For instance, take your favorite jeans and T-shirt and fine a new third layer such as a vest, barn jacket or red cardigan.
Look at your shoes–do you need an update. Clients always forget about shoes, but they are very key to your outfit. Something that continues to be popular are loafers! I like a stacked heel loafer with some of my wider leg pants. There have been times when an entire style apt in the closet just focuses on shoes: what to add, what looks best on you and what fits best with your style.
I must admit every year shoes are one of the first items I use to update my outfits. For instance, I do still wear white -cream jeans into fall and recently purchased some taupe suede loafers. They are so understated yet sharp. You can do this too!
