Color Analysis: Summer vs. Spring

After working in Color Analysis Indianapolis services for 13 years, I’ve seen a variety of approaches. Before settling on my current color analysis system, I trained with three others. They were all very similar, but the system I use today has more choices and goes beyond the basic four seasons. This helps because there’s often confusion between Summer and Spring.

Summer and Spring Color Analysis Confusion

I’ve experienced this confusion firsthand because I’m a True Spring, one of the rarer seasons, but I once received a color analysis that labeled me as a Summer. At first, Summer made sense with my blonde hair and blue eyes. The Summer colors somewhat worked, but they weren’t my best. I looked terrible in grey, a color featured in the Summer palette. I remember buying two designer grey suits – one in linen and the other in wool – and they just didn’t look right. I wasn’t sure why.

Later, I received another color analysis and was informed that I was not a summer but a spring. Spring made much more sense to me with its warm, bright colors and a warm undertone.

Multiple Summer clients have also come to me for second opinions on their color analyses after being told they were a Spring.

Differences between Summer and Spring

The Summer season is characterized by muted, smoky hues in the eyes and hair. The skin tone is very fair and cool. This season looks great in greys, light black, and pale, muted pastels. No colors are bright and warm. Here is a comparison between me and my friend: I am a spring, and she is a summer, even though we are both blonde and blue-eyes, Kim is more smokey-pale and I am more warm.

Spring is considered the other season for blondes and is very different from Summer. This season features warm, medium-bright colors to wear. Black or grey are not included. The Spring colors I wear now are much different than the Summer palette I was originally given. I have bright turquoise, many shades of warm green, navy, brown, red, coral, yellow, and camel.
