Spring/Summer Trends from your Indianapolis Personal Stylist
Hello Indianapolis Fashionistas,
There are many fun clothing trends you will be seeing in your favorite stores, and I am going to give you an inside view! Most of these trends come from the Designer Spring Ready to Wear shows.
Anyway, back to what’s coming around the corner in fashion …
Here they are in summary: Think pink! All shades of pink were seen on the runways: Pale pink, bright pink coral-pink, Fuchsia. This beautiful hue was worn in a variety of styles and textures including satin, pleats, fur, cut outs, men’s wear, fur, appliqué and more. I particularly like Balenciaga’s purple belted jacket and pink skinny pants outfit. Marques’ Almeida showed a pale pink motto jacket. It’s sweet, yet street. How cool is that. (Pale pink suede jacket is from ASOS.com.
Second major trend is graphic stripes — these are the big, bold, colorful stripes. You will see them all over the stores. These stripes are not for the shy, but they can do great things for your shape, especially if they are vertical or sometimes diagonal. It is the size of the horizontal stripes — small to mid-size stripes are not as enlarging as very wide stripes–that determine whether an outfit is flattering to your figure. If in doubt, reach for color blocking in vertical in medium to dark colors, and leave the large-stripe, horizontal striped item in the store. This top, pictured here, is from Macy’s and by Bar III.
You will find the stripe trend in all kinds of clothing — tops, pants, dresses, coats, scarves, shoes, purses. It’s fun and very fresh. If you are unsure about this trend, embrace it in a small way with shoes, purses, scarves or jewelry.
Puff sleeves continue to be popular this spring. Some are bell sleeved, too. I really like this feminine trend, especially in a blouse. If you are a straight or a bigger on the bottom figure, this trend is very flattering on you. If you are plus, bigger on the top or the middle, do this trend in moderation Let your mirror and conscious be your guide!
Satin is another trend we will see this spring and summer. It’s not just reserved for holiday parties and weddings anymore. See it in jackets (even Bomber jackets, which is not new); slip dresses; skirts; suits and men’s wear; and strapless evening wear. It is pretty and very feminine.
Finally, a classic many of us have embraced through the years is having a comeback — Khaki! This classic was all over the runways, but this time in shapes that are nothing like the familiar. Feminine versions of the trench coat, flounced skirts, belted suits, short suits, dusters, and maxi dresses. If you always loved Khaki, but like me, did not like the usual chinos, A-line skirts and traditional trench coat version, this season is for you. Find a shape you like and fall in love once again with this practical, all-American fabric.
