Planning Casual Outfits with Intention

If you are like me at all, you don’t give much thought to your casual outfits. They are often a last-minute choice: whatever is not in the laundry. You throw it on and go. That is changing as more casual pieces continue to be center stage and what we wear from gym to date night, or wear it all day. That means we need a little more thought as we put together these outfits each day. So I’ve compiled some Carmel Wardrobe Stylist tips below.

Carmel Wardrobe Stylist Tips for Planning Casual Outfits

Work with Carmel Wardrobe Stylist Beth Divine to plan casual outfits image shows woman wearing red jacketThis blog idea came from a recent client who asked me to select gym clothes she could dress up for a night out. I ended up building on her black cami, black bicycle shorts, or flared leggings. I added a colorful layer in coral and also found a black stripe hoodie and told her to change her shoes to some type of flat. Black is a good basic to build upon, but I caution you to stay away from adding layers that are 100 percent black. That’s too much! Honestly, as we age, men and women wearing all black should be avoided because it is aging and too harsh. This is similar to the one we bought from Spanx. She could add a cute little black or red print baseball hat.

Next, on to me! I am always buying shoes. In fact, I rarely am sorry about the amount of shoes I have. Why? They set the tone for everything you wear with them. If you want elegance, a sporty look, or a put-together professional look, your shoes do the work. Don’t beat yourself up for buying new shoes.

Planning a trip overseas in a large city, I need some new, fresh shoes that I can walk miles in. I don’t want to wear my black or white Hokas. This is the pair I selected in olive with a heel. Now, what to wear with them??

Plan casual outfits with the help of Carmel Wardrobe Stylist Beth Divine image shows olive shoeIt is not as easy as you think. I do consider olive a neutral, so I will pair it with denim, light and dark, cream, white, khaki, brown, and black. I need a casual look, but it can be structured.

I will wear it with a striped top in green and white, white jeans, and a navy or bright green blazer from Veronica Beard.

Or I can wear it with a straight, very casual denim shirtdress and baseball cap. Or some brown and cream track pants, a print cotton T from a concert, and a structured denim jacket. I will add a red purse if most of my colors are neutral.

I will not wear floral prints, ruffles, or frilly tops with these sneakers. They are clearly casual. It’s important to not blur the lines, especially with this sneaker that is 100 percent utility and casual.

I did recently buy a cream, fitted, and short denim jacket that I will wear with a statement T and add my leopard crossover bag.
