In my previous blog, I discussed a news story that highlighted the alarming increase in skincare use among tweens. I have heard a couple of numbers tossed around, but tweens are likely spending between $168 and $375 a month for skin care at places like Sephora, Ulta, and department stores. To better manage skin care for kids and yourself, your Personal Image Consultant has compiled some pointers.
Tips for Managing Family Skin Care
Make sure your daughter or son does not use your skin care products. Your child doesn’t need to worry about wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, dull skin, and other issues!
Stress sunscreen for everyone in your family. Good teaching begins at home!
Totally forbidding skin purchases is probably not the answer! But start to be aware of what your children are buying and using. Make sure the skin care product does not contain the “actives” such as vitamin C, citric acid, salicylic acid, and retinol. Read labels.
Personal Image Consultant Skin Care Advice for Adults
The increased interest in skin care is not just a trend among tweens! Adult women and men are interested too. Let me share a story of personal experience.
In the past, I was a total skin care junkie and would use a wide range of products. One day, I gathered up and counted all of my products. It turns out I was using eight different ones. These included cleansers, moisturizers, serums, eye cream, and day cream. I placed them all in a bag and had an appointment with my esthetician. We reviewed all of them, and I quickly learned that many of my products contained the same active ingredients. I had been over-treating my skin, which is not a good practice.
So do your research and get some professional advice to improve your routine. I rely on my dermatologist a lot because I know they have the answers to many of my skin care questions.
Beyond products, I also want to mention the benefits of facials and other treatments. I love a good hydrating facial and it’s an important part of my self-care routine! I like to use Med Spas because they have some extra training and can implement stronger products as needed. I can also recommend MK Dermatology and Spa 170 West. I have gone to both practices and they do a great job.
