How to Complete an End-of-Season Closet Cleanse

As the seasons change, so do our fashion preferences. The end of each season offers a wonderful opportunity to embark on a wardrobe adventure and curate a closet that reflects your unique style and simplifies your daily dressing routine. So grab a cup of your favorite beverage, put on your favorite tunes, and let’s dive into the joy of a wardrobe refresh with tips from your local Indiana Wardrobe Stylist!

Steps for a Successful Closet Cleanse

Step 1: Assess What You’ve Worn Regularly
Start by celebrating the pieces that have been your faithful companions throughout the season. These are the garments that make you feel confident, comfortable, and stylish. Take note of the colors, cuts, and styles that resonate with you. These are the building blocks of your signature look.

Step 2: Assess What You Haven’t Worn
Now, let’s turn our attention to the pieces that have been patiently waiting in your closet. If you haven’t worn something, it’s time to investigate why. Is it a matter of personal taste, the wrong temperature for the fabric, or just a change in your mood? By understanding the ‘why,’ you’re setting the stage for a wardrobe that truly aligns with your lifestyle.

As you sift through the garments that haven’t seen the light of day, ask yourself why that is. Maybe it’s as simple as you don’t like it as much as you thought, or maybe the weather never quite matched up with that cozy sweater. Perhaps your style has evolved and you’re just not feeling the love anymore. Whatever the reason, identifying it helps you make more intentional choices moving forward.

  • You just don’t like it: No shame in that! Personal style is a journey, and not every piece is going to be a hit. Let go of the guilt and make room for what truly makes your heart sing.
  • The temperature wasn’t right: Weather can be a tricky thing. Bid farewell to the pieces that never quite aligned with the climate of the season.
  • You’re just not feeling it anymore: Style is an ever-evolving expression of self. If a piece no longer resonates with you, it’s okay to say goodbye and make space for the new.

Step 4: Keep What You Love and Wear
Now comes the fun part – keeping the pieces that spark joy! Your wardrobe should be a curated collection of items that make you excited to get dressed each day. Cherish the pieces that make you feel confident, happy, and authentic.

Letting go of what no longer serves you creates space for new fashion adventures. Whether you decide to donate, sell, or swap, know that your pre-loved pieces can find a new home where they’ll be cherished.

Remember, fashion is about self-expression and feeling good in your own skin. Let this end-of-season wardrobe sort be a celebration of you and your unique style journey. Happy sorting!

Receive Closet Cleanse Help from an Indiana Wardrobe Stylist

I conduct many closet cleanses for my clients, and these cleanses can go several ways.

  • One option is that I can come clean out a closet and make new outfits in person.
  • Or I can create a virtual closet using an online program and photograph outfits to make it easier to coordinate the pieces in your closet.
  • I can also take the process even further by cleaning out the closet, making new outfits, and then compiling a list of wardrobe needs. We then follow that up with a shopping appointment. Afterwards I can photograph all the purchased pieces and put them in a virtual closet to arrange daily outfits.
