As Julie Andrews sang in The Sound of Music…”I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don’t feel so bad”…So as an Indianapolis Wardrobe Stylist and image consultant, I am going to share with you some of my favorite things, from clothing to skin care. (Photo by Miriam Alonso).
As we age, skin care needs to be updated to take care of the changes in our skin and hormones. For instance, many women say my skin is so dry. That is most likely true. I have always taken care of my skin but needed much more after 50. One major switch I made was to use a Med Spa where I can easily purchase prescription-level products and get recommendations for the best products for my skin issues.
- Right now, I am using Image night cream, and love it. I soaks into my skin quickly and the C in it gives me a nice glow.
- Hair care… I love Moroccan Oil products, specifically the conditioner. It nourishes my summer-dry hair as does Aveda Botantical Repair Strengthening Conditioner.
- Cleanser. Surprisingly, I choose to save a little money with the facial cleansers I use. I like Cerave Face Wash and Cetaphil. I often buy the sensitive skin formulas that do not have fragrance in them. I don’t buy exfoilator as I used to because my stronger products already do that. Once every 4-6 weeks I get a facial/dermaplane as well.
- Eye primer. I have recently realized how important eye primer is, especally in keeping my eyeshadow and liner firmly in place. I like the trusty “Urban Decay” eyeshadow primer. It creates a nice matte base and keep makeup fresh looking. If you have oily skin, however, these products will not work for you.
- For under eye brightness and smoothness, I love the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Awakening Concealer Click Pen. It adds some coverage, and more important, more brightness! Makeup artists always have this product in their kit!
- Generally, one of my favorite and “essential” items is a food bra, fitted by a professional. Sorry ladies — these “comfort” bras you buy online do not cut it. A bra is supposed to support you and those cannot even begin to accomplish that. I had a client once tell me after getting a new bra her posture was better and she was taller. Where to go? In Indiana, I like Nordstorm (they are trained there), and Barbara’s New Beginnings.
- Shoes are a part of our wardrobe– are they not? I like a variety of brands, but for comfort sneakers, one of the best for me is Joseph Siebel. I love the Claire 01 Leather Sneaker and the Caren 01. I have the orange sneakers, and they are comfortable and a fun color for my casual outfits.
- For something different clothing — I like Venus and Boston Proper. These catalogs are fun to look over and sometimes I take the plunge and buy something unuusal.
- Summer dresses can’t be beat in Lilly Pulitizer. The retailer has so much more than the original shift dresses. Surprisingly, their athleisure items are so well made and colorful, I tend to wear them all the time after I’ve been to the gym for a class or a swim, they are so cozy to put on and enjoy. They are definitely worth the pricepoint.
Keep it sassy, Indy.
